Most of the historical Duchy of Normandy is on the European continent and was conquered by France. The Isle of Man is held by the British Monarch by virtue of inheriting the feudal title of Lord of Mann. It was previously dominated by Norway, England, and Scotland, earlier than the feudal rights had been purchased from Scottish dukes, after English-Scottish unification, by the United Kingdom in 1765. Due to native opposition, it was never merged into England as beforehand deliberate, and stays a distinct possession of the monarchy.
