Questrade claims first AI account access in Canada

Questrade Financial Group has unveiled a range of platform upgrades, positioning itself as Canada’s most technologically advanced self-directed brokerage. The features include the country’s first integration connecting retail investment accounts directly to external AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT.

Toronto-based wealthtech provider d1g1t announced its own MCP server on July 20, 2026, linking its enterprise wealth management platform directly to Claude, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Copilot. However, d1g1t is an advisor-facing technology platform, while Questrade is connecting retail client accounts on a consumer-facing basis.

Pre-IPO Access and Financial Automation Engine

Questrade is also launching a product called Flows, described as Canada’s first native financial automation engine. The tool lets clients describe an investment strategy in plain language, after which the system constructs and executes the automation, placing trades on their behalf.

The firm is offering “Canada’s first self-directed investing offering of true Pre-IPO access.” This product will allow accredited investors to buy into private companies before they ever reach a public exchange, potentially months earlier. Wealthsimple launched its IPO Access feature in May 2026, but Questrade’s product will provide earlier access to private companies.

According to Hwan Kim, Questrade’s chief product officer, the pre-IPO feature will open access to a broader segment of qualified investors, including those who are income-based rather than wealth-based alone. The pre-IPO feature has not yet launched and remains listed as coming soon.

Pricing and Additional Features

On pricing, the firm is introducing $0 per-contract fees on US-listed equity options, which it frames as among the most competitive options pricing in Canada. Two additional features remain in development: a Personal Balance Sheet tool consolidating a client’s full financial picture across accounts held at Questrade and elsewhere, and the Pre-IPO Access product described above.

Neither of these features has a confirmed launch date. Questrade manages approximately $100 billion in total assets under administration, according to its most recent disclosures.

The firm is also rolling out a new visual identity with a redesigned logo and updated aesthetic, which it says reflects the growing sophistication of its client base. As Rob Galaski, President of Questrade Financial Group, said in a statement, “Today, Questrade begins our next chapter with first-in-Canada products and a new brand identity that mirrors the ambitious mindset of our clients.”

For the people most affected by this development, the new features and pricing model could mean greater access to investment opportunities and more control over their financial portfolios. As the digital brokerage space continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how Questrade and its competitors adapt to changing consumer needs and technological advancements.

Questrade, Inc. is a member of the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) and the Canadian Investor Protection Fund (CIPF). The firm’s latest moves are part of a broader trend in the financial services industry, with many companies investing heavily in digital transformation and AI-powered tools.
